Formed on October 20, 1825 as the 10th county in Arkansas, Conway County was named for Henry Wharton Conway a territorial delegate to the United States Congress. As of the 2010 census, the population was 21,273 and growing.
Conway County spans across 567 square miles and includes the cities of Menifee, Morrilton (county seat), Oppelo, and Plumerville.
Emphasis on Education
Education is a vital part of our thriving community and we are proud to be home to three public school districts (Nemo Vista, Wonderview and South Conway County Schools) and one of only of (2) pre-k-12 Catholic Schools in the state (Sacred Heart).
Our community college, The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton (UACCM), helps students move quickly into exciting new careers or earn college credits that are guaranteed to transfer to a four-year college. We’re also unique in that all 4 schools districts have access to our Conway County School Counts program which allows participating high school seniors to earn concurrent credit and become eligible to receive scholarship and tuition assistance from UACCM.
Petit Jean State Park
Sitting in the River Valley also puts us in close proximity to several state parks, with our very own Petit Jean State Park among the most frequented parks in the state of Arkansas. From hiking or biking on Petit Jean to fishing at Lake Overcup Landing, Conway County offers plenty of options for nature and wellness enthusiasts.
The Legacy of Winthrop Rockefeller
Petit Jean Mountain was also home to the late Gov. Winthrop Rockefeller. Rockefeller’s legacy lives on in the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute, which was established by the University of Arkansas System with a grant from the Winthrop Rockefeller Charitable Trust. Today, the Institute offers a variety of workshops, seminars, public lectures, conferences and special events.
Quality Healthcare
CHI St. Vincent Morrilton has provided quality and convenient hospital and outpatient care to Conway County and its surrounding communities for nearly a century. It offers a range of services, including emergency, urology, intensive care, laboratory, orthopedics, outpatient/same-day surgery, radiology and imaging, rehabilitation, senior day care, sleep lab and wound care.
All this, along with affordable housing and plenty of recreational opportunities, make Conway County a place where you truly can live, work and play.
